On June 16, 2010, NATIVE District held its Central Campus Groundbreaking Ceremony  on the construction site in Kayenta, AZ. About 62 people attended, including Congresswoman Kirkpatrick's District Director Virginia Turner, Senator Albert Hale, and Navajo Nation Vice-President Ben Shelly. Medicine Man Raymond J. Redhouse performed the ceremony for the celebration. NATIVE Superintendent Karen Lesher welcomed the guests, and Board Member Wallace Todacheeny was the Emcee. NATIVE Governing Board members in attendance were Theodore Allen, Mary Tom, Lavina Smith, Wallace Todacheeny, and Eugene Kirk.

Mr. Frankie Gilmore worked with the Kayenta USD to set up the grounds. Kayenta USD provided strong support to make the event possible. In addition to providing the use of portable seating and a public address system, the Maintenance Department, under the direction of Julius Young, II, provided grounds work to accomodate parking and visitors. The KUSD support and hard work made the NATIVE Groundbreaking a success. The Kayenta Township provided the Recreation Center for the luncheon and after ceremony activities.

The Groundbreaking signifies the start up of the construction phase of the NATIVE District Central Campus project. BCDM Architech Dean Schifferer is the lead designer for the project, the contractor is FCI Constructors, and the Project Manager is Tim O'Malley of the O'Malley Group.
